This part of our shoot in Santa Cruz was such a dream. While walking through the redwoods, Paulina, Kara and I ran into one of my best friends from high school, Zoe, completely by chance. I hadn’t seen her in seven years and running into her in the middle of the forest was such a serendipitous and beautiful moment. Zoe let us borrow her horse Tango for a few of the shots in this bridal gown from Rue de Seine, making this shoot a real life Fairy Tale.
At the time of our trip to Santa Cruz, I was going through some heartache with my family and was feeling very vulnerable and sad. Seeing Zoe set me on a wavelength that reminded me of the beauty in the world. Watching her ride Tango towards us, sent me right back to when we were friends in high school and used to run around the hills of Los Olivos with our horses, feeling free and living in the moment. Nostalgia can truly change one’s mindset. I realized, once again, that although we may experience trying times where the world seems like its crashing down on us, there’s always hope that happiness can sneak its way back in. Even in the most unexpected moments, when you’re wandering the forest alone and run into an old friend, like some sort of Fairy Tale. People like to try and tell me fairy tales aren’t real, but I refuse to believe them.
Life is full of magic, you just have to know where to look.
