Girl On A Vine does it again. Whenever I want to dress like a Stevie Nicks rocker gypsy queen I turn to this brand. Her kimonos are my favorite, always complete with tons of fringe and beautiful embroidery. Seriously, in kimono land, it doesn’t get much better than this.
The day I adventured for these photos, I decided to explore a new part of the mountain somewhere I had never been before. This trip was very spontaneous, as it had been storming all day, and I took my chances hoping I could escape the weather up the mountain roads. My first destination turned out to be very cold and windy but I tried to wait it out by using my Patagonia jacket to keep warm when the storm rushed through. After a few attempts and very cold fingers I decided that it just wasn’t a photo day and I got back into my car to go home. I felt pretty defeated, as it was the second time weather hindered my ability to photograph this outfit.
A little ways down the road, I noticed the sky beginning to part and jumped out of my car to follow a glimmer of sun up an unknown path. Although I didn’t know where I was going, I was excited to see where my next steps would lead and trusted that something just beyond the horizon would be amazing.
As soon as I got to the top, the incredible view took my breath away. The clouds began to part even more and rays of warm sun spread out across the mountain ridge. Suddenly I felt a rush of hope and ran to the edge of the ridge to capture the changing light. The next few moments were full of magic, as I’m sure you can tell from the photos. The sunset that night truly ranks as one of the most beautiful I’ve seen. During the last few minutes of the sky bursting out in patches of hot pink and purple, a little baby coyote crept out of the brush near me and together we watched the sky turn dark.
I’m not kidding. That’s actually what happened. I watched the sunset with a baby coyote (while wearing velvet bellbottoms, a fringe kimono and a belt that jingles… kinda sounds straight out of a bohemian/coyote version of Dances with Wolves doesn’t it?).
That night, driving home, I thought about how defeated I felt at the beginning of my adventure, and how amazed and full of wonder I felt upon its end. How the weather started so dark and stormy, and ended warm, beautiful, and full of wild coyote magic.
That day, nature taught me that sometimes life gets hard. It’s dark and defeating, cold and relentless. But somewhere along the way, things can start to change, and then, completely out of the blue, you find yourself in a whole new environment, full of hope and in awe of the beauty surrounding you.
